How to Search Using an Image in Google

We are going to see how to search using an Image in Google here. Yes, you heard that right!

Did you know you could use an image too, you know, in order to search for results? Yes, Google not only accepts text in its search box but images too.

A lot of times you wish to know the origin of an image, as in where or on what website a particular image was used. Google will show all those instances where an image was used. It helps in tracking down someone’s original work to avoid copyright issues. Also, sometimes you could be trying to track down an artist, that’s where using Google Image Search swoops in too.

How to Search Using an Image in Google

Before we begin I am assuming you have a picture in handy. I am going to use the one I have with me.

Here’s a step by step process showing you how it’s done:

  • Step 1: Open the site of google.
  • Step 2: Click on Images button located at the top right corner as shown in the image below:

Doing that will open the following Google Images page:

  • Step 3: Click on the Camera button which has the label ‘Search by Image’ option:

A small dialog box will open then. If you have an image with you and not on some URL, you should select the second option

  • Step 4: Click on Upload an image. That would be in the second tab.

  • Step 5: Click on Choose File button then.
  • Step 6: Select the image file you were planning on searching on Google. I have an image for The Hidden Pea with me. I will use that. Click on the image and then click on Open in the dialog box.

Alternatively, you could also simply drag and drop your image to the screen like this:

Will save you the Steps from 3 to 6.

Now wait for the image to upload:

The next screen would be the results page showing all those places where the image was used.

See? That simple!

Now that you know how to search using an image in Google, go ahead and search your image origins away.
